Biography: I am a lecturer in psychology at the University of South Wales specialising in learning and behaviour. My research has investigated the mechanisms by which we come to learn relationships in our environment (such as how one thing causes another) and how such mechanisms may be implicated in anxiety and depression. More recently I have developed a strong interest in Evolutionary Psychology, finding this a powerful explanatory mechanism. Having some prior experience in a clinical setting, working with patients with eating disorders and running classes on stress management, I am particularly interested in the evolutionary basis of attractiveness and the development of body image, and in the concept of evolutionary mismatch and how this contributes to stress in modern society. |
Research areas: Attraction; body image, learning theory, psychopathology. |
